Nato chief says he is confident Burnham will stick to defence spending target

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte visited London this week to express confidence that Andy Burnham, expected to be the UK's next prime minister, will follow through on the alliance's defense spending commitments. According to the Guardian, Rutte said he does not expect the UK to meet NATO's target of spending three point five percent of GDP on defense by twenty thirty-five in one single step, when Britain announces its long-delayed defense investment plan on Tuesday. Rutte also noted that military investment can spur economic growth — a point likely aimed at helping the new government justify raising defense spending.
