NASA’s Roman telescope nears launch, reaches final integration and rehearsal milestones

science

NASASpaceflight reports that NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is slated for launch on August thirtieth at seven twenty six a.m. eastern daylight time. Since arriving at Kennedy Space Center in June, the observatory has completed a series of pre‑launch steps, including a thorough cleaning and inspection of its six‑meter‑wide solar array sun shield. Technicians also loaded roughly two hundred ninety gallons of hydrazine fuel, enough for its five‑year primary mission and possibly an equal extension. The telescope has now been mated to SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy launch adapter, encapsulated in the rocket’s fairings, and passed a full‑scale launch‑day dress rehearsal and Flight Readiness Review. With those milestones cleared, Roman will be moved to the Horizontal Integration Facility and rolled out to Launch Complex thirty‑nine A for the final countdown, targeting the Sun‑Earth L2 point for its survey mission.
