Astronomers Use Rare Ultra-Magnetic Star to Crack a Quantum Mystery

Universe Today reports that astronomers used NASA’s Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer to study the magnetar 1E 1547.0–5408, and they observed signatures of vacuum birefringence in its ultra-strong magnetic field. The detection may finally resolve a lingering quantum-mechanics mystery.
