According to Ars Technica, ozone loss didn't start when the world began using CFCs widely. New research shows the damage existed earlier than scientists realized—it could have been detected as far back as the nineteen fifties, if we'd possessed today's diagnostic tools. It's a reminder that some environmental problems hide until we develop the instruments to spot them.
