Ice Island Survives Run-In With Joe Island

A massive iceberg has broken away from the Petermann Glacier in northwestern Greenland, marking the largest calving event for any Arctic glacier since twenty twenty. NASA Science reports that the ice island, which measures just over seventy-six square kilometers, recently survived a collision with a rocky outcrop known as Joe Island without breaking apart. Researchers are tracking the berg as it drifts through Nares Strait, noting that its long-term stability and the behavior of the glacier have significant implications for sea level rise.
