Father of USS Lincoln sailor taken into ICE detention while son deployed in Middle East

The Guardian reports that Joshua Aviles, a sailor aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier, is on a nine month deployment in the Middle East. He told reporters his father, Luis Manuel Aviles Roa, a Nicaraguan national waiting for a green card, has been taken into federal immigration detention. A U.S. Homeland Security spokesperson said Border Patrol arrested the father after a vehicle stop in Key West, Florida. Aviles’ deployment continues while his family deals with the immigration case.
