Asylum seekers to pay £10,000 towards living costs under new UK law

politics

The UK government is moving forward with a new law requiring asylum seekers to pay ten thousand pounds towards their living costs or lose their path to settled status. According to the Guardian World, the means-tested scheme is compared by officials to student loans, but charities have strongly condemned it as placing a tax on refugees fleeing war, torture and famine. The immigration and asylum bill will come before Parliament on Tuesday.
