The Conversation reports that researchers at Dublin City University have shown graphene can be made with a kitchen blender, tap water and shredded newspaper. By grinding graphite from electronic waste in ordinary water and adding cellulose from old paper, the mixture keeps the carbon sheets from re‑aggregating, staying usable for several hours. Laboratory analysis confirmed the material was indeed graphene, though the scientists note it won’t replace industrial factories. The method could lower the barrier for schools and low‑budget labs to explore graphene research, giving two common waste streams a second life.
