[$] How to be safe from quantum computing

tech

LWN.net reports that practical quantum computers may be only a few years away, after decades of being perpetually ten years out. Recent research has shown that factoring ECDSA keys on a quantum machine could need far less memory than previously thought, with one open study cutting memory use by more than half compared to the state of the art in twenty twenty-three. At the same time, computer makers are touting quantum processors that hold superpositions longer. The article suggests that because software updates spread slowly, it's worth reviewing configuration changes and protocol updates now to stay safe from quantum threats.
