Corners in focus: Metasurface enables motion tracking without digital image processing

science

Phys.org reports that a research team at City University of Hong Kong has unveiled an optical corner‑detection method built around azimuthal Hilbert transform metasurfaces. The approach is presented as a universal framework for high‑speed, low‑power optical information processing. Metasurfaces, engineered layers that can shape light at the nanoscale, enable the technique to capture motion without any digital image processing. The method could pave the way for faster, low‑power motion‑tracking systems in future technologies.
