Mapping Air Pollution With MAIA Sensors in Addis Ababa

NASA Science says the MAIA mission has placed ten ground sensors across Addis Ababa, capturing three years of fine particulate matter—particles two point five micrometers or smaller. The map shows concentrations ranging from twenty to forty micrograms per cubic meter, with the darkest reds marking the poorest air quality during rush‑hour spikes and holiday fires. The mission’s camera, built at JPL, is slated for launch on an Italian Space Agency satellite no earlier than late twenty twenty seven, and its detailed measurements aim to inform pollution strategies in cities worldwide.
