Kennedy Center's survival depends on Trump, DOJ says in new filing

Axios reports that the Justice Department, representing the Trump administration, filed a court document on Monday arguing the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts needs major renovations and a cash infusion to stay afloat. The filing warns that an order blocking the board from properly recognizing President Trump could cause donors to flee, contributions to dry up, and halt the rehabilitation effort. It further cautions that without Trump's involvement, the Center could deteriorate into an unsafe, decrepit structure that would have to be taken down, and notes that some have long suggested replacing it with a large outdoor amphitheater overlooking the Potomac River. The document underscores the administration’s push to tie Trump’s name to the venue as part of its survival strategy.
