Bereaved mother says England maternity commissioner role would be ‘fundamentally dangerous’

health

Emily Barley, founder of the Maternity Safety Alliance and a bereaved mother whose daughter Beatrice died due to hospital failings in twenty twenty-two, warns that England's proposed maternity commissioner won't solve systemic problems. According to The Guardian, Barley told BBC Radio 4 the Amos review's recommendation falls short. She's calling for urgent changes: more staff in maternity triage services to address women's concerns faster, independent investigations when families dispute hospital inquiries, hospitals admitting errors immediately instead of prolonging compensation negotiations, and action against the racism and discrimination embedded in maternity and neonatal care.
