Volcanic eruptions and warming climate disrupt long-standing link between Indian and Pacific oceans

Phys.org reports that a new study combining paleoclimate data and climate models suggests large volcanic eruptions can disrupt the long-standing relationship between atmospheric circulation patterns over the tropical Indian and Pacific oceans. The research, from scientists at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, also finds that human-caused greenhouse gas emissions are now driving an unprecedented breakdown in that interbasin coupling. The findings highlight how both natural and human forces are reshaping these large-scale climate connections.
