Starmer to unveil long-delayed defence investment plan amid ‘too little, too late’ criticism – UK politics live

The UK Government is unveiling its long-delayed defence investment plan, allocating five billion pounds in fresh military funding. But the announcement is drawing immediate criticism for falling far short of what military leaders say is needed. Service chiefs have been requesting twenty-eight billion pounds to bring UK defence spending to three percent of gross domestic product—a commitment Prime Minister Keir Starmer made at the Munich Security Conference earlier this year. Lord Dannatt, the former head of the British Army, called the plan "a step in the right direction" but said it doesn't meet the level of increase the nation and its allies demand. According to The Guardian, both Conservative and Liberal Democrat opposition parties are criticizing the package as too little, too late.
