Space Weather Living History: Dr. Donald Fairfield

NASA Science is highlighting the career of Doctor Donald Fairfield, a pioneer in magnetospheric physics. Starting in the early nineteen sixties, Fairfield used early satellite data to prove how interplanetary magnetic fields drive currents in the magnetosphere. His work at NASA Goddard led to the mapping of the Earth's bow shock and the creation of the first quantitative model of the planet's distorted magnetic field.
