Sunscreen for lakes and dams: Could a thin floating layer of nanomaterial shield water from evaporation?

science

Phys.org reports that physics researcher Daniel Kwasi Kpeglo has completed his Ph.D. with a lab-based proposal for a thin nanomaterial cover that could float on lakes and dams like a blanket, reducing evaporation by blocking infrared heat from the sun. The research targets water loss in hot regions like southern Africa, where rising temperatures are shrinking supplies for people, farming, and industry. Kpeglo says the design still needs to clear hurdles before it can be tested in the real world.
