California sues to block Trump’s mail-in voting rules just days after loss at Supreme Court

CalMatters reports that California is suing again over President Trump's executive order on mail-in voting, just days after the Supreme Court ruled the state had sued too early. Attorney General Rob Bonta announced the new lawsuit, filed in federal court in Massachusetts on Wednesday, arguing the Postal Service's new rules violate the Constitution by overstepping states' authority over elections. The rules would require states to hand over voter lists, redesign ballot envelopes, and add tracking barcodes, with the Postal Service refusing to deliver ballots to non-compliant states. Bonta called the move a 'clear violation of the Constitution,' and noted that more than eighty-nine percent of California voters used mail-in ballots in the latest June primary. The outcome remains uncertain as the November elections approach.
