One million migrants in Spain apply to regularise status in new scheme

According to the Guardian, more than one million undocumented migrants and asylum seekers have applied to regularise their status in Spain under a new government programme. The initiative, launched in January, was expected to help around five hundred thousand people, but attracted twice as many applicants before registration closed. The move puts Spain at odds with most other European countries, which are tightening their borders.
