‘No transparency’: Labor to scrap levy secretly placed on Victorian public transport fares

The Guardian reports that Victorian Premier Ben Carroll announced on Thursday the abolition of a levy secretly added to public transport fares, a charge that was intended to help fund the Suburban Rail Loop and other Big Build projects. He said the levy will be scrapped because there was no transparency in its creation and implementation. Commuters will no longer see the extra surcharge on their tickets.
