UK ‘minded to’ intervene in Paramount’s $110bn takeover of Warner Bros Discovery

The UK's culture secretary is asking British regulators to review Paramount's one hundred ten billion dollar acquisition of Warner Bros Discovery. Lisa Nandy wants competition and media authorities to examine whether the merger threatens media plurality and fair competition. The deal would combine major Hollywood studios — home to Superman, Batman, and Top Gun franchises — with Channel Five, the news channel CNN, and TNT Sports, which broadcasts the Champions League and Premier League. It would also bring together Paramount Plus and HBO Max under single ownership. The concern: whether one company would control too much of the entertainment and sports content available to UK audiences.
