Drought-hit Danube gives way to mammoth fossil hunt in Bulgaria

Around twenty volunteers, coordinated by the Regional Museum of History of Ruse, are combing the dry bank in hopes of uncovering more mammoth bones or other artifacts after July’s discoveries. The search underscores how unusually low water can turn a modern river into a window on the continent’s Ice Age past.
