Justice Samuel Alito, who wrote the opinion overturning Roe v. Wade, retires

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito announced his retirement today, according to NPR. Although little-known outside the court itself, Alito served as a driving force behind the court's conservative majority, most notably authoring the decision that overturned Roe v. Wade last year. That ruling fundamentally reshaped abortion policy across the United States. Beyond that landmark decision, Alito played an influential role in advancing conservative positions on a broad range of constitutional questions.
