Like being ‘stabbed in the back’: abuse survivors left without trials after Christian Brothers’ unprecedented legal tactic

world

According to The Guardian, abuse survivors from Christian Brothers schools and orphanages are being left without trials. The religious order has sought a permanent halt to hundreds of legal cases, arguing it faces bankruptcy and cannot afford settlements. Instead, the Brothers propose establishing their own compensation scheme outside of court—but survivors won't receive what they're owed in full. One survivor described the experience as being stabbed in the back, after his trial was aborted at the last hour.
