Dementia care navigators help Coloradans get the support they need

The Conversation (US) reports on a new Medicare program called GUIDE, which pairs people living with dementia and their caregivers with trained care navigators. In Colorado, where nearly a quarter of the population is Hispanic or Latino, the program is working to address cultural barriers like language access and stigma — especially since Latino Americans are one and a half times more likely to develop Alzheimer's than white Americans. The University of Colorado's GUIDE program has enrolled two hundred patients and their caregivers in its first two years, and it's now hiring bilingual navigators and adding Spanish-language resources. As the program expands, it's part of a national effort to understand how dementia care navigation can best support families.
