Italian MEP suggests government wants to ‘hide truth’ about Albania migrant centre

According to The Guardian, an Italian member of the European Parliament says her government may be hiding the truth about an offshore migrant detention center in Albania. Cristina Guarda, from Italy's Greens and Left Alliance, said staff at the facility in Gjadër denied her delegation access to detainees' cells and refused to provide basic information—including how many people were being held. The center has recorded six suicide attempts. Guarda's comments suggest concerns that the government is restricting oversight of conditions at the facility.
