NASA Astronaut Jonny Kim Departs Agency to Continue Military Service

NASA News reports that astronaut Jonny Kim is leaving the agency after nearly a decade, with his final day at Johnson Space Center scheduled for Thursday. Kim’s most recent flight took him to the International Space Station in April twenty twenty‑five, where he completed Expeditions seventy‑two and seventy‑three, orbiting Earth three thousand nine hundred twenty times and traveling roughly one hundred four million miles while overseeing station operations and piloting the Canadarm two. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman praised Kim’s contributions as shaping future missions, and Johnson Space Center director Vanessa Wyche said his impact will be felt for generations. Kim is now returning to active duty as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy to finish the remainder of his military career in naval aviation training.
