US supreme court strikes down limits on campaign spending
politics
The US Supreme Court today struck down restrictions on how much political parties can spend in support of their candidates. The ruling eliminates one of the remaining limits on wealthy donors funneling unlimited money into federal elections. According to The Guardian, the decision stems from a twenty twenty-two lawsuit that challenged the Federal Election Commission's enforcement of rules around coordinated party spending. Former President Trump celebrated the decision on his social network, calling it a big win for Republicans and, as he wrote, a victory for the First Amendment.
