Shear flow in narrow channels sparks amyloid formation, experiments reveal

Researchers in Japan have found that proteins can begin to misbehave and form amyloids when they are forced to move quickly through narrow channels. As Phys.org tells it, this process occurs when too many proteins attempt to squeeze through a small space at once, creating a biological bottleneck.
