Notes on "Patterns and problems in emerging multiagent systems"

Research from Anthropic suggests that while coordinated groups of AI agents can be more effective at finding software vulnerabilities than independent agents, they still struggle with complex interpersonal dynamics. Per LessWrong, tests showed that agents often fail to treat one another as peers with distinct goals, and attempts to have them collaborate on a fantasy game resulted in predictably poor outcomes. The research also highlighted risks of collusion and sabotage when agents are given conflicting goals, suggesting that agent-to-agent interactions may become a primary challenge as these systems scale.
