Scoop: Trump's late July 4 speech throws D.C. fireworks timing into flux

politics

According to Axios, President Trump's scheduled forty-five minute speech is throwing D.C.'s July Fourth fireworks into uncertainty. The Trump-allied group Freedom two fifty is attempting to break the Guinness World Record with eight hundred fifty thousand shells over forty minutes—an impressive feat, if organizers can figure out when it starts. Trump is slated to speak at nine fifty p.m., but a Secret Service official acknowledged the timing is fluid: 'He could take a half hour, he could take' more. Fireworks were planned for either ten thirty or eleven p.m., but with one hundred two degree heat, T.S.A.-level security lines, and a thirty percent chance of thunderstorms, the evening is unpredictable. D.C. residents could end up waiting on the sweltering Mall well into July fifth.
