House GOP agenda stuck over SAVE Act, again

politics

House Republicans are blocking votes again — this time over the SAVE Act, a signature GOP election bill that's become a recurring source of legislative chaos. Fourteen Republican representatives voted against the rule for the National Defense Authorization Act because it doesn't include their election measure. According to Axios, the House has already passed the SAVE Act three times, but it lacks the necessary support in the Senate, where Democratic votes would be required. House conservatives are pressuring Senate Republicans to eliminate the filibuster and pass it, but that effort has gained little traction. Speaker Mike Johnson tried a compromise, offering to package the SAVE Act with the defense bill before sending it to the Senate — though senators could easily strip out the election measure. The path forward for both bills remains unclear as Congress heads toward the July Fourth recess.
