Joro spiders eat wider range of insects than Georgia's native orb weavers

Researchers have found that invasive Joro spiders consume a broader variety of insects than the native orb weavers found in Georgia. Phys.org reports that scientists previously worried these large black-and-yellow spiders might compete for the same food sources as local species, or even prey on them. This competition could potentially threaten native orb weaver populations already stressed by the use of pesticides and insecticides.
