Car: Dolphin 26.08 and KIO performance improvements

tech

LWN.net reports that Méven Car’s recent blog posts detail new features and performance work in the Dolphin 26.08 file manager and the underlying KIO framework. Dolphin is the default file manager for the KDE desktop environment. Benchmarks show copying many small files is now more than twice as fast as it was in April, though the advantage shrinks for larger files because the fixes target per‑file overhead. The posts note that while KIO still lags behind the cp command, most of the remaining gap is being closed by ongoing batching improvements.
