Fire in California’s Big Sur region doubles in size overnight, forcing evacuations

A wildfire in California's Big Sur region has doubled in size overnight, forcing nearby residents to evacuate. The Guardian reports the Plaskett fire, which ignited Tuesday, had burned through more than five thousand nine hundred acres in Monterey County as of Friday and remains uncontained, according to Cal Fire. Its cause is still under investigation. The blaze comes as firefighters in the same coastal region have been battling a separate fire for weeks.
