Call to suspend new EU border system in peak holiday period as planes leave half full
business
According to The Guardian, airlines and airports are calling on the European Commission to temporarily suspend a new biometric scanning system at EU borders during the summer holiday rush. The system has passengers waiting up to five hours to clear security checks, and some flights are departing with empty seats because travelers can't get through processing in time. The industry warns this situation will worsen as millions prepare for peak vacation travel across Europe. In a letter to EU Commission president Ursula von der Leyen, they're requesting a temporary halt.
