The United Nations is launching a new global commission on artificial intelligence, bringing together major tech leaders and heads of state to develop shared governance frameworks for AI. According to Axios, the "AI for Good" Global Commission holds its first meeting on July eighth in Geneva, co-chaired by Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff and Rwandan President Paul Kagame. Members include executives from Amazon, Anthropic, Cohere, Microsoft, and Nvidia, alongside government officials from Estonia, Kazakhstan, Namibia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and Nigeria. The group's initial focus: strengthening AI infrastructure, accelerating AI's use in health, education, food security, and disaster response, and building trust and safety systems. The real challenge: global AI regulation remains fragmented, with countries pursuing different approaches to digital sovereignty and ethics.
