Noguchi’s New York animations

entertainment

Legendary sculptor and designer Isamu Noguchi once imagined something radical: playgrounds that were themselves works of art, where sculpture and play merged seamlessly. He never built them. But according to Aeon, a new animated video project brings these unrealized designs to life. Through hand-painted animation, it restores Noguchi's vision of public spaces where art and community life were inseparable. For Noguchi, this wasn't about pretty decoration. He believed art belonged in the spaces where children played and communities gathered—not locked away behind museum walls. The animations reveal what we might have lost: a world where you couldn't tell the sculpture from the playground equipment itself.
