Trump said a year ago that a summit with Putin and Zelensky was two weeks away. Moscow now says the three of them can meet only to finalize agreements that don’t yet exist.

The Kremlin says a trilateral summit between the presidents of Russia, Ukraine, and the United States can only happen to formalize existing agreements, rather than to negotiate them. According to Meduza (English), spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that such a meeting would be pointless for discussing the complex details of a settlement. This comes as a response to reports that CIA Director John Ratcliffe proposed the meeting during a visit to Moscow. While Donald Trump suggested a year ago that such a summit was only two weeks away, no such meeting has occurred.
