US strikes Iranian launchers in strait of Hormuz, sparking reprisal attack on airbases in Jordan and UAE

The Guardian says the United States struck rocket launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz, saying the move was meant to halt the laying of sea mines in the narrow waterway that ships use to move oil between the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea. Iranian state television reported that Iran responded with attacks on airbases in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates that host U.S. forces, and said a supertanker caught fire after striking two naval mines while trying to pass the southern side of the strait. The broadcaster did not identify the vessel or give details about its crew.
