Salzburg bans tourists from driving into historic centre over summer

Salzburg is the latest European city to take a stand against overtourism. Starting this summer, the Austrian city is banning day-trippers from driving into its historic center during July and August — those caught face fines. Authorities hope the 'less traffic, more city' policy will cut vehicle entries by around a thousand a day. It's a model other car-clogged European destinations are studying as they grapple with the tension between welcoming visitors and preserving livable city centers.
