The Directors Guild of America is grappling with an unusual job-protection challenge, according to Variety. Actor Zachary Quinto recently picked up his first directing credit on NBC's 'Brilliant Minds,' a show where he also stars. While it's routine for on-set talent—actors, writers, cinematographers—to temporarily direct, the DGA worries these opportunities squeeze out work for career TV directors. The question: can the union protect its members from competition with people who already have day jobs? In an industry where seemingly everyone wants to direct, that may be harder than it sounds.
