‘Star Wars’ Darth Vaul Voice Actor Was Told ‘You’re the New James Earl Jones’ and Thought: ‘Then Why Are You Paying Me Such S— Money, George Lucas?’

Voice actor Peter Serafinowicz recently reflected on his brief work voicing Darth Maul in nineteen ninety-nine's 'Star Wars: Episode One – The Phantom Menace' during an appearance on the podcast 'Classic Clown.' While actor Ray Park performed the Sith villain physically on set, Serafinowicz provided the voice. According to Variety, when George Lucas brought him on, he told Serafinowicz he'd be 'the new James Earl Jones'—a reference to the legendary voice of Darth Vader. However, Serafinowicz says the compensation didn't match the prestige of the comparison, joking that his paycheck was considerably less impressive than being likened to one of cinema's most iconic voice actors.
