NASA’s TESS Mission Finds Planetary System in New Way
science
According to NASA, the TESS space telescope has achieved an unprecedented milestone: detecting an exoplanet using gravitational waves—ripples in space-time created by massive orbiting objects. This is the first time TESS has identified a planet through this method. Unlike the close-orbiting planets TESS typically discovers by watching them cross in front of their stars, this newly found world is a super-Jupiter, orbiting far from its host star. The discovery suggests that gravitational wave detection could reveal distant planets that traditional observation methods might miss.
