According to Schneier on Security, Anthropic released its Fable AI model on June ninth. Three days later, the US government classified it as a dangerous munition and invoked export controls to ban foreign nationals from accessing it. Unable to distinguish between American and foreign users, Anthropic shut down access entirely. Schneier argues this won't help—the real issue is the accelerating trend of AI capabilities. He notes that meaningful solutions would require the kind of collective action that isn't currently possible.
