Kākāpō rising: 90 chicks swell population of the world’s heaviest parrot

The population of the kākāpō, the world's heaviest parrot, has climbed above three hundred birds for the first time in seventy-five years. As The Guardian reports, ninety chicks were officially added to the population on Tuesday, bringing the total to three hundred twenty-five. This record breeding season for the critically endangered New Zealand bird was triggered by the mass fruiting of a native tree.
