Cloudflare’s new policy pushes AI companies to pay for publishers’ content

Cloudflare is drawing a line between search and AI. According to TechCrunch, the content delivery network is giving AI companies a September fifteenth deadline to separate their web crawlers — those used for search engines from those used for AI training. Companies that fail to comply risk being automatically blocked from thousands of publisher websites. The move pressures the artificial intelligence industry to compensate publishers rather than freely ingesting their content for training.
