According to Phoronix, the Linux kernel in version seven point two has finally eliminated the strncpy API after six years of development work and three hundred sixty patches. Strncpy has long been considered a potential security vulnerability in C code. Its removal represents a significant cleanup effort, as kernel developers systematically replaced all uses of the function with safer alternatives throughout the codebase.
