US-UK drug deal could result in 229,000 excess deaths in England, analysis suggests

According to analysis cited by The Guardian, a UK-US trade deal from last December could require the NHS to redirect forty-five billion pounds from essential services toward new medicines. Researchers estimate this could lead to more than two hundred twenty-nine thousand excess deaths in England. The government defends the deal, arguing it protects British drug exports from US tariffs and provides patients access to potentially life-extending medications they'd otherwise not receive.
