Australia politics live: Labor shuts down Andrew Wilkie’s protest against ‘rubbish’ gambling reform bill
politics
Australia's government introduced long-awaited gambling reforms in parliament this week, more than three years after a landmark report recommended them. The reforms include stricter restrictions on gambling advertising starting January first on streaming services. Independent MP Andrew Wilkie criticized the measures as inadequate, but Labor dismissed his concerns. The government is also battling the Coalition and Greens over a separate social media regulation bill. Minister Anika Wells accused the opposition of stalling it with an eight-week inquiry, giving tech companies time to prepare their response—or as she put it, to 'shred documents.' According to The Guardian, Wells condemned the delay as abandoning bipartisanship on what she calls an urgent matter.
